"Our Grandparents Dreamed of a Better World" features a stencil from an enlarged section of the Tzigane (The Gipsy) piano roll printed on to reflect the aspirations behind early 20th-century Gipsy imagery. The stencil allows light to shine through, casting a shadow of hope, while the back of the piece shows images of the grand piano and the devastation in Gaza, symbolizing dreams that remain unfulfilled. The work is displayed upside down, referencing Rebecca Horn’s work Concert for Anarchy (1990).
